Amateur Radio is a fascinating hobby. It opens doors of communication most people didn't even know existed. That being said, it can be a confusing (and expensive!) hobby to get into. Equipment can easily run into the thousands. But it doesn't have to be that way, and you don't have to bang your head and waste a boat-ton of money like I did just to get on the airwaves. A handheld ham radio costs as little as $15, and a global HF radio can be purchased for less than $200!
I put this site together as both a guide and review page of sorts to help hams new and old enjoy the hobby without breaking the bank. I'll continue to add more affordable radios and equipment as I review them!

HF On The Cheap
The USDR+ 8-band QRP transceiver is probably the best bargain out there. It covers 80 through 10 meters, outputs up to 10 watts of power, and has an internal battery. SSB voice modes are strong enough to make contacts overseas with consistently good signal reports, and the CW features...
Priced just slightly higher than most USDX clones, the Xiegu G106 is a great starter QRP transceiver. Build quality is excellent and even with a 5-watt rating DXing is amazingly easy on SSB voice. Receive sensitivity is excellent, and it's ability to handle CW and data modes is well documented online.
